Guilty Pleasures – Cricut Christmas Cards

Let me just say that since I  bought this thing (the Cricut personal paper cutter) in August, my whole outlook on art has changed. Funny, I didn’t think the two were related but cutting out shapes of paper in coordinating colors, really seemed to bring shapes and colors to the front of my mind and I loved it! So, this purchase started me on the new path that I am painting in now of using the aspects of things I like to see, rather than the things themselves. And let me just say, it’s harder for me to do than painting a still life of a, let’s say , cupcake, but it’s so much more fulfilling when I am done!

So, to deviate from my normal posts a bit, here are some pictures of what I was doing last night. I made these christmas  cards with the “Joys of the Season” cartridge, for the gifts I have to send to family all over the place. 🙂  And, I just had to show them off somewhere.

Two Roses – 8×8 Ink on Watercolor Paper

Last night at Thanksgiving, I was talking to my aunt about the dandelion drawings and we both expressed how much we love dots! So, when I got home, I added them to my rose drawing and it was perfect! That’s just what it needed. Putting the green dots on it held the image together and makes the roses on top of their skinny, curly stems much less top-heavy. I will be turning this into a painting on scrap book paper and panel very very soon! 🙂

Lilies & Buds – Green

12″x12″ – Acrylic, ink and washers on canvas.

I LOVE lilies! This started out as a pink stargazer lily on the green background you see here, but I ended up liking it better with the lily matched to the background. So, it inspired a few more lily paintings like this to come in the future. But for now… here is the first one in a series of “Lilies & Buds.”
